West Side knocked out of Great Lakes Regional with second loss

River Forest, the Little League champions of Illinois, eliminated Hamilton West Side in the Great Lakes Regional on Tuesday, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth to win 6-3 at the Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Ind.

West Side opened the double-elimination tournament Sunday with a 4-3 loss in seven innings to Silver Creek (Ind.). The two losses end the season for a team that won its ninth Ohio championship in the last 11 years with a 5-0 record in the state tournament in New Albany.

West Side took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the fourth inning for the second straight game. It gave up four runs in the last three innings Sunday in the loss to Silver Creek.

This time, Cam Carter got West Side on the board with an RBI double, scoring Peyton Davis, who led off the inning with a triple.

Later in the inning, a single by Eli Wolpert scored Rowan Brown. The next batter, Brooks Treadway singled to score Xander Arnold.

River Forest tied the game with three runs in the top of the fifth and then took the lead by scoring three runs with two outs in the sixth. A two-run triple by Ryan Lazewski broke the tie. West Side went down in order in the bottom of the sixth.

River Forest opened the tournament with a 7-3 victory against Glendale (Wisc.) on Monday. Bowling Green (Ky.) routed Silver Creek 15-4 in the other game Monday.
