LITTLE LEAGUE West Side game time changed

HAMILTON — The Hamilton West Side Little League team’s game tonight has been moved to 6 p.m. at Centennial Park in Englewood.

West Side will face North Canton in the winners’ bracket final of the state tournament. The winner will be one victory away from a berth in the Great Lakes Regional in Indianapolis.

LITTLE LEAGUE West Side 10U wins district title

HAMILTON — The Hamilton West Side 10U All-Star team won the District 9 championship by beating Lebanon’s 10U team 14-3 on Monday night at the West Side Baseball Complex.

Kaden Kimbrell led the attack going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Cole Purdy added three hits and Payton Pennington, Matthew Myers, and Caleb Owens each had two hits. Kimbrell, Pennington and Cooper Haynes combined on the pitching effort.

Other members of the team are Gage Retherford, Jaylen Robinson, Montana Allgaier and Cameron Tenhundfeld. The manager is Tim Nichting who is assisted by Kenny Coomer and Kris Kimbrell.

Hamilton will play New Albany at 2 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the state tournament in Tallmadge.

BASEBALL

Joes sweep DH from Steam

HAMILTON — The Hamilton Joes swept the visiting Cincinnati Steam in a doubleheader on Tuesday night at Foundation Field.

The Joes won the opener 3-2 and followed it up with a 10-3 win in the second game.

The wins improve the Joes to 22-16 overall and moved them into second place in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League’s South Division.

Wally Gerbus, Ian Graham and James Sheltrown each had an RBI in the Joes’ 3-2 win. Seth Varner earned the mound win and Matthew Marksberry picked up the save.

Dusty Isaacs threw seven innings of three-hit, one-run baseball to lead the Joes in the second win.

Hamilton returns to action tonight at Xenia.

Miami’s Robinson signed by Steelers

Former Miami University wide receiver Armand Robinson was among 18 undrafted rookies signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday.

Robinson (5-foot-11, 197 pounds) caught 210 passes for 2,550 yards and 15 touchdowns in 49 career games with his most productive seasons being his final two.

In 2009, Robinson was named third-team All-MAC after catching 67 passes for 788 yards and four touchdowns. He bettered that in 2010 with 94 catches for 1,062 yards and six touchdowns. In his team’s biggest game in years — the 2010 MAC Championship Game — Robinson caught 14 passes for 176 yards and the game-winning touchdown against Northern Illinois.
