Reds put three players on injured list before start of series vs. Cardinals

The Cincinnati Reds made a flurry of moves Thursday before the start of a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park. Here they are:

1. The Reds placed catcher Curt Casali on the 10-day injured list with a right-knee sprain.

2. They placed catcher Kyle Farmer on the seven-day concussion list.

3. They placed reliever David Hernandez on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder fatigue. Hernandez has a 6.92 ERA in 43 appearances. He has an 18.00 ERA in his last 10 appearances.

4. They recalled infielder/outfielder Josh VanMeter from Triple-A Louisville.

5. They signed catcher Ryan Lavarnway, who was hitting .213 in Triple-A in the New York Yankees organization, to a one-year contract through the 2019 season.

6. They designated pitcher Jesus Reyes for assignment.
