Cincinnati Reds: Hunter Greene’s debut apparently is not imminent after all

And no, it’s not because anything bad has happened. It’s just that Greene and the Reds are exercising patience before their firing up their first-round draft choice.

After signing with the Reds July 7, the former California high school superstar pitcher and shortstop reported briefly to the Arizona League for work, and then on Saturday joined the Billings Mustangs of the Advanced Rookie Pioneer League. Greene was the No. 2 overall pick in last month’s MLB Draft.

He's not active there yet, though, and will apparently not pitch for at least another week or so, according to KHQ Q6, an NBC affiliate in Spokane, Wash., that serves Northern Idaho, which isn't far from Billings, Montana.

Greene said that he needs to get back into game shape.

In the meantime, he seems to be loving Billings, which is quite different than Southern California, or Arizona. As he said, “The weather is a lot better than when I was just in Arizona, so it's not that bad. The environment is great.”

You may be wondering why a TV station in Spokane is reporting this.

Well, apparently, this story first was rolled out by SWX Montana, a digital subchannel. That’s owned by Cowles Company, and produces sports and weather over Cowles’ multiple channels, including Spokane’s KHQ and KULR in Billings -- which is 530 miles from Spokane.
