Prep football: Madison-West Jefferson regional final at Beavercreek

Beavercreek High School is the next stop for Madison’s surging football team.

The Mohawks will take their nine-game winning streak to Frank Zink Field at Miami Valley Hospital Stadium on Friday and will meet West Jefferson in the Division V, Region 20 championship game. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Madison (10-2) is the lone Southwestern Buckeye League team still standing after Valley View’s Division IV loss to Clinton-Massie last Friday.

WEEK 12: Madison 35, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy 27

West Jefferson is 12-0, though the Ohio High School Athletic Association lists the Roughriders as 11-0 because they defeated a club team (the Columbus Crusaders) in Week 1.

Local fans may remember West Jefferson as the team that ousted Badin from the playoffs in 2013 and 2014.

The Roughriders are making their 20th postseason appearance with a record of 23-17 in playoff games. They were state champions in 1976 and 1982.

This is the first playoff campaign for Madison. The Mohawks have rallied to beat Anna (14-10) and Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (35-27) to get here.

The other three Division V regional finals are as follows:

• Region 17 — Canfield South Range (12-0) vs. Sullivan Black River (11-1) at Canal Fulton Northwest’s Jim Schalmo Field at Dr. Martin Smilek Stadium

• Region 18 — Pemberville Eastwood (12-0) vs. Marion Pleasant (10-1) at Lima Stadium

• Region 19 — Wheelersburg (12-0) vs. Johnstown-Monroe (10-2) at Chillicothe’s Herrnstein Stadium

Ticket information: Presale tickets for the Madison-West Jeff game will be available at Madison's athletic office Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will also be sold in the fieldhouse community room Wednesday and Thursday from 5-7 p.m.

All presale tickets are $8, and Madison will receive a cut of the presale money. Tickets at the gate will be $9.
