There will be no title sharing in the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division this season.

Madison High School’s boys basketball team went on the road and fought off Preble Shawnee 50-45 on Friday night, capturing the outright Buckeye championship after clinching at least a share with Tuesday’s 40-38 win at Northridge.

Grant Whisman tallied 22 points and eight rebounds for the Mohawks, who extended their winning streak to 14. They are 18-3 overall and finished 11-1 in league play to earn their first SWBL crown since 2009-10.

Levi McMonigle added 11 points and 11 boards, scoring 7 points in the final seven minutes before leaving the game with a knee injury with 19.9 seconds left.

Shawnee (13-5, 8-3) was scoreless for a critical stretch of more than three minutes at crunch time, allowing the Mohawks to turn a 36-34 deficit into a 40-36 lead.

Cameron Morgan’s two free throws sealed the victory and provided the final margin with 6.8 seconds left. Madison was 17 of 20 at the foul line — the Arrows were 9 of 17.

Austin Moore (15) and Joey Bates (13) topped the scoring for Shawnee, which dropped a 41-32 decision at Madison on Jan. 6. Chase Thompson grabbed 12 rebounds and Moore chipped in 11.

The Arrows will return to action at home Saturday night against Arcanum. Madison has a week off and will close the regular season next Saturday at Cedarville.
