Mason overwhelms Withrow, improves to 2-0

Heading into its showdown with Sycamore on Friday, Sept. 8, Mason football coach Brian Castner got a chance to see a little of everything in Week 2.

Mason rolled to a 48-0 lead at the half of a 55-0 win over Withrow to improve to 2-0.

“We feel like we are healthy and we are excited about the opportunity of this weekend at Sycamore,” Castner said.

Mason’s starters got to watch most of the game after being lifted midway through the second quarter.

Matt Sora scored two touchdowns and quarterback Will Adams scored on a 15-yard run and finished with 57 yards passing and 27 yards rushing before giving way to James Harris.

Mason also got a score from the defense on a 10-yard interception return by Terrell Mizell.

Logan Dalton scored three times and led Mason with 79 yards on 10 carries while Harris threw an 11-yard scoring strike to Austin Croy.

Harris completed both passes he attempted for 22 yards.

Mason finished with 13 first downs and 241 yards in total offense while holding Withrow to three first downs and 86 yards in offense.

“I was really happy with our (backups),” Castner said. “They came on and held onto the shutout and did everything we asked them to do.”

After Sycamore, Mason returns home for a second straight Greater Miami Conference opponent in Hamilton.

Lebanon 21, Loveland 14: Lebanon scored 21 points in the second quarter and hung on against Loveland on a cold, rainy Friday night.

“When you are a team that likes to throw the ball, weather can be an issue,” Lebanon coach Shawn Lamb said. “We did a nice job of mixing in our quick passes and running the ball and our offensive line did a nice job.”

Kyle Short finished 10 of 22 for 129 yards and a 30-yard scoring strike to Derrick Allen. Short also scored on a 1-yard run.

Brendan Lamb led the ground attack with 61 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown.

Lebanon out-gained Loveland 179-119.

The Warriors entertained Fenwick this past Friday and will travel to Beavercreek for Week 4.

Lakota East 34, Kings 27: The Knights made one big comeback but couldn't pull off a second one in a one-score loss.

Kings trailed 21-7 in the second quarter before rallying to tie, 21-21. East scored the first 14 points of the second half to push the lead to 34-21 before Tyler Stylski scored from five yards out with 9:17 remaining to make it a one-possession game again.

Jake Dobrozsi scored all five touchdowns for Lakota East, including runs of five and nine yards in the second half en route to finishing with 217 yards on 37 carries.

Lakota East out-gained Kings 374-249 with Nak’emon Williams leading the Knights with 182 yards on 11 carries and two scores.

Kings hosted Covington Catholic on Friday and will travel to Anderson for the Eastern Cincinnati Conference opener in Week 4.

Little Miami 32, Western Brown 0: Two weeks, two shutouts for Little Miami.

A week after blanking West Carrollton in the opener, Little Miami’s defense held Western Brown to 103 yards in total offense, including two yards on the ground on 17 carries.

Little Miami finished with 312 yards rushing on 50 carries led by Lucas Patten’s 215 yards on 30 carries. Patten scored on runs of five, 10 and 10 yards.

The Panthers also got a 2-yard fumble recovery by Ryan Sellars.

“Our offensive line played spectacular in the bad weather with the rain and wind,” Little Miami coach Nate Mahon said. “I told the players it was a dedication to the off-season lifting program that allowed us to win that game against Western Brown in a physical manner.”

Little Miami hosted Richmond Heights in Week 3 and kicks off Southwest Ohio Conference action Week 4 at Mount Healthy.
