Prep headlines: Indians fall to top-ranked La Salle in opener

BOYS BASKETBALL

LA SALLE 57, FAIRFIELD 32: The Indians dropped their season opener on the road Friday night to the Lancers. La Salle, the top-ranked team in Cincinnati, built a 39-10 halftime lead. FHS was led by Jeff Woods, who scored eight points off the bench. Brandon Neel scored 21 and Josh Lemons 18 for the Lancers. FHS travels to Purcell Marian on Tuesday night.

NEW MIAMI 80, MIAMI VALLEY 72 (OT): The Vikings overcame a 25-8 deficit to record the win in coach Grady Morris’ debut. New Miami had four players in double figures, led by Casey Chesnut’s 23 points. Jamar Kotey’s added 21, Steve Rogers had 16 and Dylan Wethington marked 10 for the Vikings, who host Middletown Christian tonight.

CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN 41, DEER PARK 40: The Cougars won their season opener on the road Friday night. Jordan Eiras scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Avery Sneed chipped in 10 points and nine boards for CCS, which hosts Cincinnati Country Day on Tuesday.

LAKOTA WEST 55, WILMINGTON 40: The host Firebirds — who closed out the first half on an 11-0 run — placed three players in double figures, led by sophomore Monty Boykins’ 16 points, to knock off the visiting Hurricane in the season opener. Seniors Phillip Cook (13 points, career-high 15 rebounds) and Shane Dixon (11) also scored in double digits. West hosts Bellbrook on Tuesday.

HAMILTON 2,631, LAKOTA EAST 2,575: Kyle Tillery rolled games of 247 and 203 Friday to lead the Big Blue at Columbia Lanes. Chris Lindsey added a pair of 215 games and R.J. Groh had a 235 game for Hamilton (3-0, 2-0 GMC). HHS will host the Big Blue Challenge today at Columbia Lanes.

HAMILTON 1,899, LAKOTA EAST 1,155: Freshman Darian Arminio rolled a 342 series to lead the Big Blue on Friday at Columbia Lanes. Sophomore Kelsie Prater had a 193 game for HHS (2-1, 1-1 GMC). HHS will host the Big Blue Challenge on Sunday at Columbia Lanes.
