RESULTS: Week 5 Scoreboard
Behind a dominant offensive line, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound Martin carried 16 times for a school-record 274 yards as the Rams thrilled the home crowd with a 41-21 win.
“I want to give a shoutout to my offensive line,” Martin said. “I didn’t even know I had the record until I heard the announcement. It feels terrific. As a team, we worked so hard to get ready. We were relentless on the hill all summer, and we have some dudes who can fight.”
Badin threw the ball only two times all night, content to let the tailbacks carry 46 times for a whopping 551 yards while improving to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Greater Catholic League Coed Central Division.
“This feels pretty good,” Badin coach Nick Yordy said. “We kept telling the guys to work hard, and the kids responded. We just have to keep taking the next step week after week. Our running game was great tonight. (Martin) was great, (Davon Starks) was great, the entire offense did a great job. Now we just have to go to work and get ready for next week.”
While Martin averaged a ridiculous 17 yards per carry, he wasn’t the only Ram runner to have a big night. Starks had 181 rushing yards and two scores and caught a 48-yard scoring toss from Jordan Flaig. Kegen Rogers added 77 yards rushing and two scores as Badin rolled up 599 yards of offense.
The Rams ran up 385 yards and scored 34 points in the second half after leading 7-0 at halftime.
Yordy said the Rams didn’t change much at half. They merely fixed some mistakes and focused on what they do best — run the ball.
Roger Bacon running back Corey Kiner entered the game with 506 rushing yards and eight scores. Kiner did gain 125 yards and scored twice, but was limited to four yards per carry as the Rams swarmed the star tailback.

“No doubt he is a special athlete, but our defense did a good job tonight,” Yordy said. “We did a really good job wrapping up, holding him up and getting numbers to the ball.”
Roger Bacon started a wild second half by recovering a fumble on the opening kickoff.
Kiner scored from 15 yards out to cut the Rams’ lead to 7-6, but Badin responded with 21 straight points.
Rogers scored on a 32-yard run, Martin had a 20-yard dash and Starks capped off the scoring splurge with a 59-yard sprint.
Roger Bacon quarterback Tyler Bullock completed 21 of 33 passes for 202 yards and one score. Bullock hit Zuri Edmonson from 14 yards out in the final quarter and Kiner broke off a 50-yard scoring jaunt, but Badin answered each score to send the Spartans to 2-3, 0-2.
“It is pretty awesome,” Martin said of the 4-1 start. “We just want to come out and play as a team. We have a made a big turnaround from last year. All our hard work is paying off, but we still have to keep working.”
Badin has homecoming next Friday against Fenwick, while Roger Bacon returns home to meet Alter.
