Regional semifinal roundup: Huguely, defense power Trotwood-Madison

Ke’shawn Huguely and the Trotwood-Madison defense each turned in a dominant performance in a 41-7 win over St. Marys Memorial on Friday night in a Division III, Region 12 semifinal.

Huguely put Trotwood on the board early in the second quarter and Trotwood took a 7-0 lead into the half.

In the third quarter Cooper Stewart hit Carl Blanton Jr. on a 50-yard touchdown pass and Huguely rumbled for a 47-yard score to put Trotwood up 21-0.

St. Marys trimmed the deficit to 21-7 on a TD throw with 5:02 to play, but Trotwood answered with a third rushing score from Huguely and a pair of scoop-and-scores to blow the game open.

Huguely finished with 130 yards on the ground and three TDs and 64 yards receiving on offense along with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery for a TD on defense.

Trotwood (9-3) advances to the regional finals next Friday night against Badin (9-3), which defeated Alter 38-21 on Friday.

OTHER GAMES

Division VI, Region 23

Anna 54, Fairview 20: Anna trailed 14-0 early but recovered by halftime and ran away in the second half, winning a second round playoff game for the first time in school history.

Riley Huelskamp led the way, rushing for over 300 yards and scoring six touchdowns. Anna (11-1) will look to take home the school’s first regional title when they square off with Archbold next Friday.

Division VI, Region 24

Covington 36, Chillicothe Southeastern 20: Trentin Alexander had two rushing touchdowns in the second half to help Covington eliminate unbeaten Southeastern.

Covington (10-2) will face Mechanicsburg next Friday. It marks the first regional final appearance for Covington since 2012.

Mechanicsburg 48, Grandview Heights 7: Chayse Propst scored  four touchdowns for Mechanicsburg (10-2), finishing with 16 carries for 193 yards. Gabe Chandler added a pair of TD runs and Kix Thiel recovered a fumble for a score.
