Headphones, smart watches and shopping sprees: Best bowl gifts of 2016

A fairly new annual bowl tradition is back: Checking out the stuff college football players are getting from the hosts of the numerous bowls around the country.

Here are our picks for the top five items being doled out this holiday season (via SBD):

5. Amazon Echo Dot, Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl, Army vs. North Texas.

The seniors will no doubt find this new-age item clutch in laying out their first adult apartment, and the underclassmen will find ordering pizza easier than ever.

4. Beats by Dre Powerbeats2 headphones, Arizona Bowl, South Alabama vs. Air Force.

Fancy headphones are all the rage these days, and the teams will also get an inflatable couch, a watch, rucksack and special socks, so this is a strong package.

3. Apple Watch Nike+, Alamo Bowl, Oklahoma State vs. Colorado.

Along with something to help them stay connected and tuned into their workouts, players will get a mini-helmet, portable charging hub, team photo and $110 to spend at Best Buy. Nice haul overall.

2. Life-sized Fathead decal, Quick Lane Bowl, Boston College vs. Maryland.

Did we mention it’s a Fathead in the likeness of the player? Yeah, pretty amazing. Big points for originality… not to mention throwing in JBL headphones, a $200 Best Buy gift card and winter apparel likely to be a necessity for spending late December in Detroit.

1. $305 shopping spree to Best Buy, Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, Louisville vs. LSU.

Nothing beats being able to buy what you want, right? Oh, and the players also get an EA Sports video game AND a B-dubs gift card (plus a watch and sandals, but who cares about that).

Yeah, the custom Fathead is cool, but what better way is there to get to the heart of a college student than with free food and electronics?
