But NFL rules stipulate that Rodgers has to have suffered a new injury that would cost him at least six weeks of time for him to be placed back on the injured reserve for a second time this season. If that set of criteria isn’t met, the Packers would be forced to release Rodgers.
Clearly, the Packers are going to fight this with all their might because they have no interest in letting one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL hit the open market by way of a technicality. Still, the teams that are complaining seem to have a valid case that Green Bay skirted the rules.
And it’ll be interesting to see how things play out from here.
