Eifert, Ross ruled out for Packers game

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert and rookie wide receiver John Ross have been ruled out for Sunday’s game at Green Bay.

Eifert, who had offseason back surgery, aggravated his back in the 13-9 loss to Houston on Sept. 14. He began having issues in the first half, and trainers were trying to stretch him out on the sideline. Eifert remained in the game and appeared to catch what would have been a go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter, only to have the officials wave off the score due to Eifert stepping out of bounds before catching the pass.

He has four catches for 46 yards in the first two games.

This will be the 28th game Eifert has missed since the Bengals drafted him in the first round in 2013. Since playing 15 games as a rookie, he’s missed 27 of the team’s last 50 games.

Ross will be inactive for the second time this year. He missed the opener after suffering a knee injury in the preseason finale at Indianapolis but started the Houston game.

Ross lost a fumble on his first NFL touch and ended up playing on five snaps. He was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice due to illness, but the knee designation was added Thursday. He did not practice Thursday or Friday.

Starting right guard Trey Hopkins will miss his second consecutive game since suffering a knee injury in the season opener.

Three other players on the injury report are listed as questionable — defensive end Michael Johnson (concussion/stinger), safety Derron Smith (ankle) and cornerback KeiVarae Russell (hamstring).
