The Falcons (21-18-1, 11-6 Mid-American Conference) have now won 11 straight games, including a defeat of MU (20-22, 7-10) in Friday’s series opener.
Falcons senior and Hamilton High School graduate Tyler Elkins started at first base for BGSU. He collected a single in five at-bats and was involved in seven putouts at first.
The two sides wrap up their three-game series at 1 p.m. today.
MU softball falls in extra innings
DEKALB, Ill. — The Miami University softball team dropped a 10-inning decision to at Northern Illinois, 3-2, on Saturday, May 1.
Meghan Mawn was the RedHawks’ leading hitter, going 3-for-5 with one RBI.
Meredith Linch finished with 61/3 innings pitched, giving up two earned runs on four hits.
RedHawk netters advance in MAC
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The top-seeded Miami University women’s tennis team was pushed to the brink by No. 5 Buffalo in its Mid-American Conference semifinal Saturday afternoon, May 1, but escaped with a 4-1 victory at Western Michigan’s Sorensen Courts.
Sophomore Stephanie Danesis saved the day with a three-set victory at No. 2 for the deciding point.
Miami will look to defend its 2009 championship at noon today against third-seeded and host Western Michigan, a 4-3 winner over Akron.
RedHawks fly at Owens Classic
COLUMBUS — The Miami University men’s track and field team placed two athletes in the top five in the long jump Saturday, May 1, at the Jesse Owens Track Classic, hosted by Ohio State at Jesse Owens Stadium.
Junior Michael McCarty took third in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 24 feet, 2 1/4 inches (7.37m), which ties for fifth all-time at Miami, while fellow junior Josh Rees placed fifth with a personal-best leap of 23 feet, 10.25 inches (7.27m).
Ramball event moved to May 8
ROSS TWP. — Rain washed out the Ramball Invitational softball event Saturday, May 1, at Ross High School.
It has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 8. The revised schedule is as follows: Badin vs. Edgewood, 10 a.m.; Ross vs. Badin, noon; Edgewood vs. Hamilton, 2 p.m.; Hamilton vs. Ross, 4 p.m.
Also, it should be noted that there will be a 15-20 minute break between each game.
Cyclones fall to Reading Royals
CINCINNATI — The Reading Royals scored a 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Cylcones on Saturday at U.S. Bank Arena to take a 2-0 lead in the ECHL Eastern Conference finals.
Game No. 3 is Tuesday night in Reading.
