East grad named top frosh in MAC

Catcher Jarett Rindfleisch has ended his first season with the Ball State University baseball team as the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year.

The Lakota East High School graduate hit .352 with nine doubles, four home runs and 33 RBIs for the Cardinals (39-18). He also had a .993 fielding percentage.

Rindfleisch earned a spot on the MAC first team, while BSU freshman third baseman Sean Kennedy (Springboro) was named to the second team. He hit .315 with five doubles, a triple and 17 RBIs.

• Junior first baseman Cody Leichman (Edgewood) was voted onto the MAC second team after leading Central Michigan in doubles (15), home runs (seven) and RBIs (56).

Leichman also hit .315 with a triple and four stolen bases for the Chippewas (35-23).

• Junior pitcher Jordan Ammon (Fairfield) made six starts for Cedarville (31-27), going 4-1 with a 3.92 earned run average. He totaled 35 strikeouts in 39 innings.

Women's lacrosse: Five local players were part of the Mount St. Joseph squad that finished 9-7 overall and 5-5 in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference.

Senior midfielder Maggie Frommling (Immaculate Conception) of Lebanon tallied 10 goals for the Lions, while senior attacker Sarah Moderbacher (Ross) collected six goals and four assists.

Freshman attacker/goalie Bristyl Webb (Talawanda) scored once while allowing an average of 9.96 goals per contest in net. She appeared in 11 games and had a 5-3 record.

Also for MSJ, senior defender Katie Maus (Badin) notched a goal and an assist, and freshman attacker Brilyn Webb (Talawanda) played in one game.

Men's track: Wilmington junior Jake Simpkins (Valley View) earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference status by finishing third in the 800 meters (1:55.74) at the OAC meet last month in Berea.

Women's track: Thomas More sophomore Samantha Headley (Ross) took fifth place in the discus (115 feet, 8 inches) at the Presidents' Athletic Conference meet last month in New Wilmington, Pa.
