The Reds claimed Galvis, 29, on waivers in August from the Toronto Blue Jays. Last season he hit 23 home runs, had 70 RBIs and hit .260 with Toronto and Cincinnati. In 32 games with the Reds, Galvis hit .234 with five homers and 16 RBIs.

Galvis is expected to be the Reds’ starting shortstop next season. Jose Iglesias, the starter last season, became a free agent on Thursday.
