Bengals first-round pick out at least two weeks with foot injury

Center Billy Price suffered injury in Week 2 win over Baltimore

Cincinnati Bengals rookie center Billy Price is out at least two weeks with a foot injury.

Price said his injury, which occurred during Thursday’s win against Baltimore, was just diagnosed Wednesday morning and he is required to wear a boot full-time but he does not need surgery.

He did not disclose what exactly the injury is except that it is not an ankle or lisfranc (mid-foot) injury, which includes ligament strains, tears, fractures and dislocations of the bone.

“It’s frustrating,” Price said. “First we thought it was ankle, now it turned to foot.”

Price said he can physically walk without the boot but medically is not supposed to. He doesn’t have a timetable for his return but said he is not out for the year and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

“It’s great news,” Price said. “I don’t want surgery, so to not be on the table is the best thing.”

The Bengals had just learned Friday they would be without starting running back Joe Mixon, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Saturday and is expected to be out two to four weeks. Mixon said Wednesday he has a small meniscus tear and feels much better already. He plans to return as soon as he can go full-speed and make cutting moves.

In Mixon’s absence Giovani Bernard will take on a bigger workload, and third-string running back Tra Carson was expected to see his first carries Sunday at Carolina; however, the Bengals announced Wednesday they waived Carson with an injury and signed former Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets running back Thomas Rawls.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said Carson’s injury occurred Monday in practice and was not serious enough to go straight to injured/reserve. If he clears waivers, he will revert to injured/reserve Thursday.
