West Chester-based moving and storage company could expand HQs

Planes Moving & Storage Inc. is eyeing an approximately $3 million investment, including an expansion of its West Chester Twp. headquarters, according to the township and economic development agency REDI Cincinnati.

The company was approved Monday for a tax break at the Ohio Tax Credit Authority meeting, a group of business and government officials who decide on tax credits for projects creating new jobs in the state, according to REDI.

As part of the headquarters expansion on Cincinnati-Dayton Road, Planes could renovate its office space and expand its warehouse space in West Chester by about 65,000 square feet, according to REDI and the local government. The project could create about 30 new jobs over the next three years, while also retaining over 200 existing jobs, according to the nonprofit development group.

Township trustees are also due to discuss property tax incentives for the planned expansion at their meeting Tuesday.

Planes Companies, which offers moving and storage services for business and residential customers, is a third generation, family-owned business, according to the company's website planescompanies.com. It also has locations in the Columbus, Dayton, Indianapolis and Chicago areas.

Company leaders could not be reached by deadline Monday for comment on the project.

Planes is one of several companies to open new headquarter offices or announce plans to expand their base of operations in West Chester Twp. over the last year, according to the Butler County jurisdiction.

For example, growing burrito restaurant chain Hot Head Burritos last year relocated its headquarters from Kettering to West Chester, where it has better highway access and a location closer to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, said co-founder and co-owner Ray Wiley.

Also, Frutarom USA Inc., an Israel-based flavors company, planned to consolidate operations and production to create a U.S. headquarters at its existing West Chester facilities. Additionally, pork processor Sugar Creek Packing Co. was set to open last year a renovated facility for its new consolidated headquarter operations on Thunderbird Lane, in addition to its already-existing production site on Muhlhauser Road.

Meanwhile, medical device maker AtriCure Inc. moved its headquarters from leased space it outgrew in West Chester Twp. to a newly-built headquarters in Mason in 2015.
