Colorado-based StarTek plans to open the Hamilton call center later this year after renovations in the former Elder-Beerman building at 150 High St. City officials announced the new business opening on Feb. 23.
The new call center is expected to create approximately 682 new jobs in downtown Hamilton, and is believed to be the city’s single biggest announcement for new job creation in at least a decade, according to Hamilton’s economic development department.
StarTek provides business process outsourcing services such as customer care, sales support and order processing in the United States, the Philippines, Canada and Honduras.
Plans call for StarTek to fill about 40,200 square feet of space currently sitting empty in the four-story downtown Hamilton building, according to the director of the CORE Fund, the nonprofit investment fund that owns the property.
Construction is set to start on Friday on renovations to the former Elder-Beerman building for new tenants including StarTek, Joslin Diabetes Center at Fort Hamilton Hospital, Jackson Market and Deli, and Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities art initiative InsideOut Studio, said CORE Fund Executive Director Mike Dingeldein.
“All… of the new tenants are going to have their space built out at the same time. We’re really happy that the economies of scale means we can buy new studs for StarTek at the same time we buy new studs for Jackson’s Market,” Dingeldein said.
