Sheriff responds to Obama’s amnesty for illegal immigrants

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones has sent letters to President Barack Obama, Congressman John Boehner and Senator Harry Reid re-stating his position that securing the nation’s border should be the first step in immigration reform.

The president addressed the nation Thursday night, outlining immigration plan and saying he was acting on his own on immigration — further infuriating Republicans.

According to Jones, “President Obama side-stepped Congress and granted amnesty to almost five million illegal immigrants.”

Jones said Boehner responded to the letter and agreed with him.

Boehner stated in his response, “This is exactly what the American people said they didn’t want. I have been very clear that the President’s promise of unilateral action on executive amnesty is the wrong way to govern.”

The sheriff is asking Congress to undo what the President has done.

“We have just taken a hundred steps backward with this huge problem in our country. This tells the American people their voices do not need to be heard,” the sheriff said.

The National Sheriff’s Association had a plan in place for over 200 of our counties’ sheriffs to visit the Capitol and speak about immigration and the concern in protecting the American people and securing the borders.

Jones said he will continue his fight and “stance on protecting our people and urging our leaders to do the same.”
