Property owners may get orders to repair concrete

Property owners in the city may get a bill, or an order to repair, defective curbs, gutters, sidewalks or driveway aprons.

Several streets are being proposed to be a part of the annual concrete repair and resurfacing program. The program will be initiated and completed this year using funds from a Ohio Public Works Commission grant, Community Development Block Grant funds and the city's coffers.

The Public Works Department is recommending City Council initiate a special assessment portion of the program, where property owners will be notified of financial responsibility to repair defective curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveway approaches.

Council must pass a resolution declaring the necessity for the project. The issue is on the council’s caucus agenda for Wednesday, and is expected to act on the request at a later meeting.

If council approves the resolution, the city’s finance director will send a preliminary assessment notice to property owners and schedule a meeting of the Board of Revisions of Assessment to hear appeals and complaints.
