Fairfield’s fifth homicide in two years has police searching for the victim’s ex-boyfriend.

Police are searching for Nicholas Delaney, 28, in the slaying of Samantha Decker early Thursday morning, according to Fairfield Police Officer Doug Day.

A murder warrant was issued for Delaney, who is Decker’s ex-boyfriend and the father of her child, on Thursday afternoon in Fairfield Municipal Court.

Decker, 24, was found shot multiple times just after 3 a.m. Thursday at the Villages at Wildwood Luxury Apartments.

A man, who identified himself as Ian Myers, Decker’s current boyfriend, was out of breath when he made the frantic 911 call.

“Ma’am, I got shots fired,” Myers said on the call. “… shots were fired at me.”

Myers told dispatchers he and Decker, 24, had been out at a bar “having a good time” with friends. When they returned to the residence at 10 Wildwood Drive, Myers said the ex-boyfriend was inside.

“He was already there when we came home and started shooting off rounds in the house,” Myers said. “He surprised us and started shooting in the hallway.”

Myers said multiple shots were fired, and officers found Decker dead at the scene, according Day.

Delaney, 28, is believed to be driving a 1996 yellow Ford Mustang with Ohio license plate number EUN 7699, police said. He has a past address in Hamilton County.

Delaney is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Delaney and Decker have a child together, but Myers said he believed the child was not in the home at the time of the shooting, but was staying with Decker’s mother.

West Chester Police arrested Delaney on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in July involving a physical incident with Decker in the 7300 block of Kingsgate Way. Court records say “multiple witnesses” saw Delaney drag Decker by her hair and throw her to the ground.

According to Butler County Area III Court records, the domestic violence charge was reduced to disorderly conduct in August. Delaney pleaded guilty to the reduced charge and paid a $100 fine, along with court costs.

This is the first homicide in the city in 2013. The city had four homicides in 2012, three of which remain unsolved. Three of the homicides were shootings and one was a stabbing. Teens were victims in three of those homicides, and all four of the 2012 homicides were believed to be drug-related, police said.

Anyone with information about the location of either Delaney or the yellow Ford Mustang is asked to call the Fairfield Police Department at 513-829-8201.
