The Butler County coroner has identified the passenger who was killed this morning in a Fairfield car crash.
Francisca Cruz-Raymundo, 50, of Fairfield, was the passenger in a white Honda Civic driven by her son when they crashed around 6:45 a.m. at Port Union Road and Quality Boulevard. The coroner listed the time of death at 9:10 a.m.
They were headed east on Port Union Road when the 17-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and slid into the westbound lane, striking a silver Jeep Patriot.
Fairfield Police Officer Doug Day said he couldn’t confirm whether the slick, wintry conditions played a role in the crash.
“I’d have to assume so, probably,” he told the Journal-News, saying until the investigation is complete they won’t know if other factors may have been involved.
The driver was taken to Mercy Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old man, did not report any injuries.
The roadway will be closed until about noon while accident reconstructionists investigate the crash.
