Owned by David and Ree Farrar, Thai Koon serves a menu that includes an array of soups, noodles, fried rice, curry, vegetarian and Thai dishes, as well as salads.
David Farrar said the location at the Square at Union Centre was an appealing one because of its proximity to IKEA and many hotels, and because Interstate 75’s Union Centre Boulevard exit is notable for the growing number of unique places at which to dine.
“We’ve got everything here, really,” Farrar said. “There’s a wide selection of restaurants, so we think people might see this as the restaurant exit.”
Bud Siebel of Evendale said he frequents the Union Centre Boulevard area because of its restaurants, and that Thai Koon has quickly become a favorite he visits at least once a week because of the friendliness of its staff and the quality and variety of its cuisine.
“The food is always good,” he said. “The portions are plenty and you get your value for the price you pay. If there’s something not on the menu that you want, you tell them and they’ll make it for you.”
For Ree Farrar, A Bangkok, Thailand native who based the menu entirely after recipes she’s learned to cook over the years, the best part of owning and operating her own restaurant has been “everything.”
“I love to cook,” she said.
Saleena Shaw said she was impressed by the restaurant’s crispy tofu.
“The portion is a really good size and it was quite tasty in comparison to other places I’ve been to, so I’d definitely come back and have it again,” Shaw said.
