About 11 percent of Hamilton-area residents are living with diabetes, according to Dr. Baker Machhadieh, the Joslin center’s endocrinologist. Services provided by the diabetes center can help those needing extra care to manage their condition and medications, Machhadieh said.
“Since we opened this we realized that we have a lot of patients that can use the help of an educator, not just a physician,” Machhadieh said.
“This is obviously an underserved area especially for the Medicare, Medicaid population,” Dr. Andrea Bell-Willis said. “My goal is maintaining and improving the health status of the community.”
Fort Hamilton Hospital joined the Kettering Health Network in 2011.
Fort Hamilton and Kettering Health are the latest tenants to open in the former Elder-Beerman building, which is owned by the nonprofit CORE Fund. Other tenants to open there within the last year include the call center StarTek Inc., Jackson's Market and Deli, and Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities art initiative InsideOut Studio.
