After a lengthy meeting and discussion Wednesday, Fairfield Twp. Trustee President Shannon Hartkemeyer and Trustee Joe McAbee could not come to a consensus on which one of the 11 applicants should replace John McGinnis, who resigned unexpectedly on Feb. 10 for personal reasons.
Trustees had 30 days to vote to replace McGinnis on the board, but since they could not, the matter will now be decided by Probate Court Judge Randy T. Rogers.
“It is my hope that our new trustee will be someone of strong character who will work collaboratively with our existing team for the best interests of Fairfield Twp.,” Hartkemeyer said. “Our community has made huge strides in recent years. We need a leader who believes in continuing these efforts while maintaining fiscal responsibility.”
Those who have applied to be on the board include:
- Susan Berding
- Peter Bohrofen
- Benjamin Bultman
- Dennis Combs
- Bill Dartnell
- Steve Morgan
- Don Nuss
- Kevin Potter
- Amanda Salcedo
- Terry Scharnhorst
- Richard Wheeler
McGinnis declined to elaborate further on the reasons behind what he called “a very tough decision.”
McGinnis was elected in 2013 along with Hartkemeyer. His seat will be up for election in 2017. Since there are less than two years remaining on the term, a special election will not be required.
Rogers said he had not received any notification as of Friday, but will consult with Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser when he receives the notification.
