MUST SEE: England Firefighters battle "Firenado”

Firefighters in England captured a “firenado” while battling a blaze at a plastics factory in Derbyshire.

The Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service posted the video on Facebook and said that these occur when "cool air entering the top of the hot air causes a swirl similar to how a tornado is formed.”

A"firenado" or fire whirl can be dangerous and scary. They develop because of the dramatic temperature difference between the hot air from the flames that is rising and the cooler air surrounding a fire, says Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini.

The temperature difference can create high pressure (sinking air) and low pressure (rising air). Wind will flow from high pressure to low pressure and ultimately feed the fire. This flow, if strong enough, can cause the air to spin up and produce a swirling wind of fire.

No injuries were reported in this fire but black smoke could be seen as far as Shepshed in Leicestershire and Nottingham City Center.

The phenomenon was filmed by on-call crews from Ashby Fire Station at the Ravensbourn Plastics business on Tuesday.
