Officials said it will take several weeks before the toxicology results are final.
Middletown police are investigating the death of a man who was found Monday afternoon by his sister.
John “Jay” Surface, 36, of the 2400 block of Hill Avenue, was found by his sister who checked on him because he didn’t show up to work at Wildwood Golf Club, according to a police report.
Middletown police removed several items from the home Monday, although Lt. Scott Reeve said police found no crime was committed after an initial investigation.
The body was removed by the Butler County Coroner’s Office and an autopsy is scheduled to be performed today, officials said.
Surface is believed to have died either Friday or Saturday, according to Reeve. His body was found in a pool of blood, according to the police report.
Crime scene tape was initially placed around two homes on Hill Avenue just after 1 p.m. Monday. It was later removed.
Police searched the residence, but no one was found inside, according to the police report.
Police located a knife in the back yard, though the report doesn’t say whether police believe the knife may have been used in the incident.
Surface’s vehicle was not in the driveway, police said.
