Middletown police to buy new evidence van

Middletown police will be purchasing a new evidence van.

City Council Tuesday approved purchasing a new Ford Transit evidence van for $27,692 from Middletown Ford through the state purchasing contract. Because the van was on the state contract, the city did not have to solicit bids for the purchase.

The current evidence truck is a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 truck that needs to be replaced, according to a report from Samantha Zimmerman, city purchasing agent. She said the current evidence vehicle has me the city’s 15-point replacement schedule and is 41 months past replacement date. Zimmerman said the current truck will be sold through GovDeals.

She said maintenance costs would continue escalate if the city chose to keep the old truck. The Division of Police had funding allocated for this purchase in their 2018 budget.
