Police in each school district are investigating the threat, which initially appeared to come from the same social media account, said school officials and appears to be false.
“We were notified about a threat made on social media toward Fairfield Senior High School,” according to a statement from Fairfield School officials sent to school families Sunday evening.
“The threat did not include a date, and the Fairfield City School District has been working with the City of Fairfield Police Department since it was made aware of the social media post. During the investigation of the threat, it was discovered that a threat was also made to another local school district by the exact same social media account.”
“This threat will continue to be investigated by the Fairfield Police Department, and the safety of our students and staff will continue to be our priority. There will be an increased police presence at Fairfield Senior High School for the remainder of the week.
This latest, apparent “swatting” incident involving a false threat comes in the wake of Little Miami Schools in Warren County working with local police there to investigate a threat left in the boys’ restroom in Little Miami Middle School last week.
According to a statement from Middletown Superintendent Marlon Styles, Jr., law enforcement determined the threat to not be credible and said that it was a swatting incident or “a false threat reporting of a serious incident to elicit a significant response from police and other emergency services.”
Hamilton schools said school would also go on Monday, and if there are any updates, parents will be notified through the district’s School Messenger System.
Middletown Schools Spokeswoman Elizabeth Beadle said Monday “we have a strong partnership with Middletown Police and we were able to determine the threat was hoax but we are still having extra police and security in place.”
