Middletown’s economic development director has been named the top professional by the Ohio Economic Development Association.

Jennifer Ekey was recently recognized during the associations annual meeting and awards presentation in Columbus.

The OEDA award recognizes an individual who has been an economic development professional in Ohio for at least the past year. The purpose of the award is to identify someone who has assisted in making a significant impact in their organization and/or community through their efforts as an economic developer, according to the OEDA.

The Economic Development Professional of the Year award encourages, recognizes and celebrates the individual who has met the challenges of providing economic development, who demonstrates the ability and commitment to positively impact their community’s and/or the state’s economic growth, and contributed to the advancement of the economic development profession in Ohio.

“I am humbled and honored to be recognized by my peers in the State of Ohio” Ekey said via an email. “I’m passionate about Economic Development and how its many facets impact communities.”

Ekey has been Middletown’s economic development director since 2016. She served as the city of Harrison’s economic development director from 2008 to 2016, and before that served as an economic development specialist for the city of Hamilton.
