One poster read: “Tired of Anti-White Propaganda in college? You aren’t alone.” It included a link to a racist and anti-Semitic website.
“I have only heard anecdotally that the flyers were in several academic buildings and on some outdoor bulletin boards,” Miami spokeswoman Claire Wagner said.
Wagner added, “posting the flyers violates policy about posting flyers, as they weren’t approved by the student activities office, but it’s not a crime. Even racist language is protected by the constitution.”
“We do hold ourselves to a higher standard, though, and (Miami) President Gregory Crawford has cited the university’s Code of Love and Honor already this semester in his blog and in emails to the university community, reminding Miamians of the respect and integrity implied in that code, and of Miami’s pursuit of inclusive excellence,” said Wagner.
Graduate student Cat Munroe saw one poster near Miami’s Business, Engineering, Science and Technology Library last week. She says she wasn’t surprised given the climate surrounding this presidential election.
Miami University — and its regional campuses in Hamilton, Middletown and West Chester Twp. — is Butler County’s largest employer.
Classes are not in session for the Thanksgiving break, but the university remains open today.
