  1. Check your tires and tire pressure: Snow and ice affect how your tires grip on the road. Manager of Grismer Tire, Mark Breining, said checking these now could save you thousands of dollars in possible repairs.
  2. Have your furnace inspected: Temperatures may be just beginning to drop, but McAfee Heating & Air Manager Chris Bryant said you need to make your appointment now.  Schedules only fill up quicker as the season progresses.

  1. Check your CO detectors: Kettering Fire Department Battalion Chief Jon Durrenberg said if your furnace is not working properly it could leak carbon monoxide, which can kill you. A working CO detector is key to keeping you safe.
  2. Don't put space heaters next to combustible items: Kettering fire officials said they tend to see fires this time of year caused by space heaters placed near flammable items.
  3. Check your car battery: Car batteries tend to fail when temperatures fall. Lower temperatures demand more from your car battery to get your vehicle started.
