Volunteer bell ringers are needed to help the Salvation Army raise money for its many local efforts in the community.

The Oxford Kiwanis Club serves as volunteer coordinator for the annual effort and the money raised is used to support the mission of the Salvation Army.

Donald Hanson serves as Bell Ringing Coordinator for the Kiwanis Club, which is performing this service for the 15th consecutive year.

“I can remember the bells ringing and Salvation Army bands playing on downtown street corners in cities across the country,” Hanson said. “I have personally watched the Salvation Army at work in disaster situations. They ask for no public praise or publicity … they simply do what has to be done in a very efficient and silent manner.”

Groups and individuals are invited to sign up online for volunteer times to handle bell-ringing at various locations.

There are times available on Nov. 25-26 and 28 as well as Dec. 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, 12, 16, 17, 19, 23 and 24.

Anyone willing to help can go the Kiwanis Club website, www.oxfordkiwanis.org and schedule a date and time. Shifts are one hour long and volunteers can take as many shifts as they desire. Volunteers will be sent a confirmation of their time by e-mail.
