Rehabilitation facility Arlington Pointe now open in Middletown

ARLINGTON POINTE’S CONFUSING ADDRESS

Arlington Pointe’s address has caused problems, according to facility officials.

“Our address is 4900 Hendrickson Road, Middletown,” said facility Administrator Tim Miller. “Well, there’s a 4900 Hendrickson Road, Franklin, which is up at the other end of it.”

Street numbers on Hendrickson steadily climb from east to west until they reach the 8300 block, before dropping to 4900 after the newly built roadway crosses Cincinnati-Dayton Road.

“One of the residents said he’s not getting his mail,” Miller said. “His attorney papers are going back to the attorney. (The postal service) is saying, ‘We don’t have any place to deliver to.’”

People “call us all the time (saying), ‘We’re on MapQuest, we can’t find you. We’re out in the middle of a field,’” he said.

“I know exactly where you’re at — you’re at a llama farm, aren’t you?’” he said he replies.

The new Arlington Pointe nursing home and short-term rehabilitation facility in Middletown looks nothing like what many may envision of a typical rehab facility.

The 110,000-square-foot facility has the spacious corridors of an upscale hotel and an 1,800-gallon saltwater aquarium, a beauty shop with granite countertops, and a professional chef in its kitchen. Each of the 99 rooms is private — all 50 short-term Medicare beds for patients who are rehabbing with plans to return home after hospital stays; plus the 49 rooms for long-term residents.

“All of these units are privates — there are no semi-privates, they’re all privates — and large privates, actually,” with dimensions of 24-by-17 feet, said the facility’s administrator, Tim Miller. “So the Medicaid, the Medicare and the private-pay are all going to receive the same quality rooming, and honestly, that’s one of my big selling points.”

Arlington Pointe also has a state-of-the-art “therapy mall” that helps people recuperating after hospital visits from strokes and other ailments, with an aqua-therapy tank similar to those used by NFL teams and hospitals.

The therapy mall also has a “therapy bedroom,” where patients relearn how to safely get into and out of bed; a therapy kitchen, where they regain skills needed there; an electric car they can practice getting in and out of; a realistic gasoline pump, so they can practice refilling the car; and various weights, sophisticated treadmill equipment and other occupational therapy tools.

One of the facility’s outdoor courtyards also offers opportunities for therapy. Its pathways are made up of several surfaces, including pavers, asphalt, wooden planks, two forms of gravel and mulch, allowing patients to relearn how to walk on those types of platforms.

Mayor Larry Mulligan Jr. was impressed by what he saw during a recent tour.

“It’s a multi-million dollar investment in the health sciences space, with long-term care, as well as the rehab care,” Mulligan said. “It certainly fits a need and it was just an awesome facility.”

“The rehab room was very impressive, and had the full gamut of daily activities — everything from getting in and out of cars and loading groceries, to a bedroom environment. I think that will provide a first-class experience for folks as they’re working on their rehab,” Mulligan said. “Everything I saw was top-notch.”

All rooms have deep closets, 40-inch TVs, bathrooms, recliners that lift to standing position, refrigerators, granite countertops, and their own heating/cooling units, with beds that are several inches wider and longer than standard nursing-home fare. Pull-cord systems automatically connect residents by voice to the nursing stations.

Arlington Pointe, located at 4900 Hendrickson Road, opened Jan. 4 and received its Medicare/Medicaid certification on Feb. 10, which allowed it to start taking residents with those forms of health care. It is the seventh location operated by Cincinnati-based Health Care Management Group.

As of Tuesday, the facility had 22 residents, a number that is growing daily, officials said.

Eventually, the facility will have as many as 150 employees. Already, 64 have been hired. To apply for jobs, visit www.hcmg.com and click on the button at the top for Arlington Pointe, or apply in person.
