The second officer arrived to find the male in the cruiser with glassy eyes and an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath. He was asked for identification and pulled out one but put it back in his wallet and then handed over his Colorado license. The officer was able to see two Miami University IDs during that activity.
He said he lived on East Central Avenue but did not know where he was at the time, replying “Somewhere in Oxford?”
He was identified as a 20-year-old Miami student. The officer retrieved two Miami IDs and two different family military IDs. One pair belonged to him and the other to his older brother, a recent Miami graduate.
The suspect was transferred to the second officer’s vehicle and issued a citation for underage intoxication and given a ride to his residence. It was noted he was cooperative throughout the process and the officer was glad he had been located since temperatures were falling and it was already 20 degrees and starting to snow.
The original officer explained he had seen the suspect walking on Oxford-Reily Road using the flashlight on his phone. He appeared confused and lost. A vehicle ran a stop sign and the officer made a traffic stop and while he was doing that the suspect got into his cruiser, even though never asked to do so.
