The incident was reported just after 7 p.m., a Springfield Police Division lieutenant said. There was no one in the house when the incident occurred but there is structural damage, he said.

The car, described as a Toyota Scion, may have been speeding from a collision several blocks away when the driver lost control and hit the structure on South Wittenberg, near West John Street, the lieutenant said.

The people who ran were described as Hispanic, the lieutenant said.

The collision is believed to have occurred about six blocks away, in the area of Portage Path and West John Street.

Because the four people ran, police aren't sure any of them were injured in the crash, the lieutenant said.

We will update this developing report as we learn more.
