Ohio House honors OSU officer for actions in fall campus attack

An Ohio State University police officer and Fairfield High School grad was honored Wednesday for his actions during the fall campus attack.

The Ohio House of Representatives presented a resolution to 28-year-old Alan Horujko for his heroic act during the Nov. 28, 2016, terror attack when an attacker drove his car into a crowed and then stabbed people near Watts Hall.

Horujko, who had been responding to a call in the area, was the first to arrive on scene and fatally shot the suspect within a minute of the attack. Lawmakers credit Horujko with averting further harm, according to a release issued by the Ohio House.

“It was a priviledge to recognize Officer Alan Horujko for his swift and effective actions against a heinous and reckless terrorist attack on Ohio State’s campus last fall,” House Speaker Clifford A. Rosenberger, R-Clarksville, stated. “I thank him for his bravery and service.”

Horujko graduated in 2012 from OSU with a bachelor’s degree in security and intelligence and a minor in business. He joined the OSU police department in 2015 and previously worked as a student safety officer while an undergraduate student.

He graduated in 2007 from Fairfield High School in Butler County.
