Man Caves are renowned for their creative construction and are defined as retreats, spare bedrooms, lofts, converted basement “rec rooms,” even sheds and garages that have been converted into a sports lover’s paradise.

Known for oversized TV’s and decor decked out to represent the favorite team or players, the Man Cave has grown in lore over the years. They have been equipped with poker tables, golf putting greens, seats salvaged from sports stadiums and, of course, stocked bars.
Hamilton resident, Ron Shavers proudly displays large posters of Hall-of Fame basketball great Allen Iverson and football legend and Hall-of-Famer the late Walter Payton in his cave.
“Those are what you call ‘Fathead’ decal posters and they can come right off the wall,” Shavers said. “Walter Payton was known as ‘Sweetness” and he’s really special. Iverson was sort of a hand me down, but I like him and keep him on the wall.”
Shavers’ sports room is located on the second floor of his home and he feels it is like a retreat for friends and family.
“I can go up there and enjoy watching the game with my friends and I am in the ministry, so we can meet up there and have some time to enjoy the games as well,” he said.

The Man Cave has undergone some changes over the years and home entertainment centers have made it more of a family cave.
Buckeyes fan Terry Bouquot, director of sales and senior director of business operations at Cox Media Ohio, agrees and says that is exactly how his space is set-up.
“My space is sort of a combo of both. I use it myself for watching sports, etc. and have the guys over for cards,” Bouquot said. “But the kids still use it for movies.”
