Limestone installed by bike trail to control erosion

HAMILTON — Workers with the Miami Conservancy District are rebuilding part of the bank by the Great Miami River and the bike trail.

The erosion control work is necessary following this year’s spring rains and the high river levels, said Jamie Johnson, MCD field operations manager. The Great Miami River Recreation Trail remained open to pedestrians as loads of limestone rock were hauled in from north of Dayton to rebuild the bank. Johnson said limestone, as opposed to chunks of concrete, is used at a cost of $60,000 to maintain the aesthetic value of the area.
