Hamilton residents asked to conserve electricity

HAMILTON — In order to combat rising utility fees, the city of Hamilton is requesting residents decrease electric usage during peak hours today through Friday.

According to the city, the next four days will likely be some of the hottest of the year, with temperatures in the 90s.

City Manager Joshua Smith hopes residents will consider conserving energy from 3 to 7 p.m. those days by shutting off lights not needed, unplugging small appliances, raising thermostats a couple degrees, closing curtains, and doing laundry at other times.

“Conserving energy helps to lower the customer’s monthly electric bill,” said Charles Young, deputy city manager of utilities. “By conserving energy during the periods stated for the upcoming days, the citizens of Hamilton have the opportunity of making a difference in their system, through electric cost containment and environmental stewardship.”
