Jim Hansel, of Franklin, was driving his Model A along Main Street when a Chevrolet Venture went through the intersection at Brookwood Avenue, not yielding to the parade, said Sgt. Ed Buns from the Hamilton police department. He said the accident remains under investigation, though he expects charges to be filed against the driver of the minivan.
The antique car sustained major damage to its front end and Hansel was visibly upset when he looked at his car, shook his head and walked away. Traffic was redirected for several minutes as Hamilton police investigated the accident, Buns said. The drivers of the other antique cars slowed as they passed the accident.
Buns said two people, both passengers in the Model A, were taken to Fort Hamilton Hospital with minor injuries suffered by broken glass.
Main Street was lined with spectators who waved as the antique and classic cars drove by. The parade began in the Walmart parking lot on Main Street, then stopped at the Fairfield Crossing. Awards were presented at the Butler County Courthouse.
