Fenwick inducts 9 into Athletic Hall of Fame

Nine Fenwick High School graduates were recently inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

The Class of 2019 included football, basketball, soccer, wrestling, track and field and golf standouts. The inductees were introduced during halftime of the boys basketball game Jan. 10, followed by a formal banquet and induction ceremony Jan. 12.

This was the 23rd induction since the inaugural event began in 1995. Alumni and former coaches/administrators are nominated through a public process and then verified and vetted via the Athletic Hall of Fame selection committee.

The Athletic Hall of Fame inductions alternate annually with the Bishop Fenwick Hall of Achievement inductions.

Here is a look at this year’s inductees:

  • James Dobrozsi, Class of 72, was a second-team All-State Class A football player. His senior year, the Falcons finished 7-3 and were ranked 12th in the Associated Press Class A state poll. He also lettered three years in football, wrestling, and track and field where he set a school record for shot put.
  • Shannon Donoher, Class of 2009, was named to second-team All State Division ll soccer in 2008, the year the Falcons won the state championship. She earned four varsity letters in soccer and was team captain and team MVP her senior year.
  • Tim Gough, Class of 1956, a running back and defensive back, was honorable mention All-State in 1953 and 1955. He also lettered four years in track and set school records for the 220-yard and the 440-yard dash. He also served as seventh- and eighth-grade football coach and scouted for the Falcons for 17 seasons.
  • Alexis Heard, Class of 2009, was a first-team All-State Division ll soccer player and Miami Valley Soccer Player of the Year in 2008. She was the league's top scorer as a junior and senior and she received a soccer scholarship to Eastern Michigan University.
  • Curt Hurst, Class of 1973, was a first-team All-State Class A football player in 1972 and was named Fenwick's Catholic Athlete of the Year for the Class of 1973. He lettered four years in football, two years in basketball, and one year in track.
  • Vic Jarbo, Class of 1972, was second-team All-State Class A football, first-team All-MML, first-team Middletown Journal and Fenwick Football Player of the Year in 1971. He also lettered one year in basketball and three years in track.
  • Jarryd Lentz, Class of 2007, qualified for the Division II boys state golf tournament three times, winning state as a junior and finishing second as a senior. He was first-team MML and Player of the Year in 2005 and first-team GCL North and Player of Year in 2006. During his four years, the Falcons' record was 77-7.
  • Sarah Pearce Peery, Class of 2009, was third-team All-State basketball player as a senior when she played in the State North/South All-Star game and was nominated for the 2009 McDonald's All-American Team. She finished her career with 1,064 points, third most in school history. She also lettered four years in cross country and track and field and earned an athletic scholarship to Lehigh University
  • Steve Rossi, Class of 1977, was third-team All-State basketball his senior year and first-team All SW District and MML. He lettered two seasons in basketball and played on the baseball team that won the district.
