“I saw that a good opportunity was posted where I might be able to gain some experiences, I haven’t had in Fairfield,” Lewis said. His new job will take him closer to his Mason home.
Board of Education president Jerome Kearns said of Lewis, “I wish him continued success. Chad has done an excellent job for the district; this is going to be a loss for us.”
Lewis leaves after seven years with the district, including three as an assistant principal at the high school and four years in his current job.
One task he’ll leave to his successor is the matter of outsourcing transportation for the district.
Lewis will provide the board with another update Thursday, saying “We’re nowhere close to going with outsourcing ... If we’re going to do anything, it would be a decision that would be made next year, unless the next person decides to move forward faster.” He feels “nervous” about leaving Fairfield, he said, if only because “We did so many good things in four years,” and he wants to see some of those achievements continue.
These include his implementation of an energy conservation program that has saved the district $1.5 million over three years. When the program began, none of the district’s buildings were Energy Star-certified; now five of them are, he said.
Kearns said the board will have discussions with superintendent Paul Otten about filling Lewis’ position. Lewis’ 2011 salary was $88,715.
