Pohlman, Fiehrer, Vaughn win 3 Hamilton City Council seats

Eric Pohlman easily led all night over the field of eight candidates who sought three Hamilton City Council seats, according to unofficial results from the Butler County Board of Elections.

Pohlman captured 19.6 percent of the votes, ahead of Council Member Carla Fiehrer, with 17.4 percent, followed by challenger Susan Vaughn, who received 15 percent. Those were the three who were elected to the council for four-year terms, joining Mayor Pat Moeller and council members Michael Ryan, Tim Naab and Robert Brown on the seven-member panel.

Incumbent Vice Mayor Talbott Moon won a second four-year term while newcomer Monica Nenni won her first term on Middletown City Council, according to final, unofficial results from the Butler and Warren county boards of elections. Moon received more than 27 percent of the vote, while Nenni won more than 25 percent

Newcomer Nichole Condrey beat 12-year incumbent Larry Mulligan, Jr. by vote of 52.5 percent to 47.5 percent, according to final, unofficial results from the Butler and Warren county boards of elections.

Incumbent West Chester Twp. Trustee Ann Becker has won re-election with 58 percent of the unofficial vote count.

Incumbent Fiscal Officer Bruce Jones will also keep his seat with an unofficial tally of 62 percent to Julia Flake’s 38 percent.

Voters in Butler County’s largest school system returned two incumbents Tuesday to the district’s governing board.

Unofficial vote tallies from the county board of elections showed voters chose to return Lynda O’Connor and Julie Shaffer to fill the two open Lakota Board of Education seats for the 16,500-student district.

Voters picked their new school board members in Butler County races Tuesday, although some were already decided due to only a few candidates running to fill open seats.

In two of the county’s most crowded candidate fields – Madison and Talawanda school board races – voters returned some familiar faces to the governing boards overseeing their local school systems.

Fairfield Twp.’s incumbent trustee and fiscal officer will remain in office for the next four years after overcoming their respective challengers, according to unofficial election results.

Fairfield Twp. Trustee Joe McAbee and Fiscal Officer Shelly Schultz won with 46.6 percent and 66 percent of the unofficial vote totals cast in early voting and on Election Day.

It was a close race as six candidates sought the four open seats on Monroe City Council.

Incumbents Christina McElfresh, Jason Frentzel and Keith Funk held their seats while incumbent Dan Clark failed to hold his seat. Challenger Tom Callahan finished fourth and earned a seat on council.

Voters in Liberty Twp. gave strong support for the township’s police levy renewal request with more than 80 percent voting in support.

Final unofficial results show the 3-mill renewal passed by 81 to 19 percent. The trustees voted to put the renewal on the ballot, and the vote was not unanimous. Trustee Christine Matacic argued for a renewal plus a new 0.50-mill levy, which would have cost an extra $17 per $100,000 of home valuation.

Voters who supported the 2.75-mill levy accounted for 72.5 percent of the vote, with another 27.5 percent opposing it, according to unofficial results from the Butler County Board of Elections.

Final unofficial numbers show the 3.9-mill road levy in Trenton failed by a vote of 67 to 33 Tuesday night. The city of Trenton was the only jurisdiction in Butler County asking for new money this election

Incumbent Randy Winkler easily defeated challenger Tim Humphries to be Carlisle’s mayor in a rematch of an election eight years ago.
