UPDATE: Hamilton police now say afternoon shootings include 2 victims

UPDATE @ 5:04 p.m.

Hamilton Police said today’s shooting incident occurred at approximately 1:03 p.m., and when officers arrived, they found a male victim on the ground in the 700 block of South Second Street near the intersection of Chestnut Street.

The victim, whom police did not identify, was transported to an area hospital, police said.

Police said a short time later Friday, a second male suffering a gunshot wound checked into another area hospital.

Investigators believe the second male’s wound may be connected with the shooting.

INITIAL REPORT

Hamilton police are responding to South Second Street between Chestnut and Walnut streets on the report of a person shot.

The incident was reported at about 1:10 p.m. today.

There’s no word yet on the injured person’s gender, age or condition.

Officers and detectives are on the scene searching for bullet casings and other evidence. Police have blocked off Bailey Square, which is between Chestnut and Walnut on South Second Street.

Hamilton Schools said it put Riverview Elementary School, which is several blocks from the shooting scene, into a lockdown following the shooting. A suspect was on the loose in the neighborhood, police told Hamilton Schools officials.

The lockdown was lifted at about 1:40 p.m. after about 15 minutes.
