West Chester’s Thursday night, summer concert series The Takeover on The Square presented by First Financial Bank will feature Cincinnati-based, multi-platinum band Blessid Union of Souls on Aug. 8.
“I’m always looking forward to playing in front of the hometown crowd. This is where we are from, and this is where it all started. The gratitude that I have for this city and the surrounding areas like West Chester is sincere. We hope that comes across in our music and in our live performances,” said Eliot Sloan, singer and founding member of Blessid Union of Souls.
The group’s hits include “I Believe,” “I Wanna Be There,” “Light in Your Eyes,” “Let Me Be The One” and “Hey Leonardo.” The band’s television appearances include “Regis and Kathy Lee,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “Good Morning America,” and “CBS This Morning.”
Barb Wilson, spokeswoman for West Chester Twp., said the three-hour concert will lead up to the Union Centre Food Truck Rally that will take place on Friday, Aug. 9.
“At the preview party at The Takeover, we will have Blessid Union of Souls. That will be an exciting night on the Square,” Wilson said. “Blessid Union of Souls grew out of this area, but really, they’ve gained international attention for their music. We just wanted to give a great kick-off to the Food Truck Rally.”
Several food trucks also will be on site Thursday, so concertgoers can preview the tasty options, including Best Thing Smokin’, Bite Me! Gourmet Corndogs, Funnel Vision (funnel cakes) and more.
“Food trucks have become a gourmet experience. They’re much more than the old-fashioned food trucks that we used to think of,” Wilson said.
The weekly concert series will continue through Thursday, Aug. 29 at the clock tower on The Square @ Union Centre. Attendees can share their pictures of West Chester’s weekly block party on social media with the hashtag #TakeoverWC.
