Ohio National Guard wins top honors in national contest

The Ohio Army National Guard has landed top honors for the sixth time in the Army Communities of Excellence contest.

The National Guard was selected for the gold award which will be presented at the Pentagon on May 17.

Evaluators around the country visited Ohio as part of two rounds of competition. The National Guard was judged in several categories, including leadership, strategic planning, customer focus and results, the state military branch reported.

The Ohio Guard also took top honors in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009 and 2015. It scored a “Rookie of the Year” award in 2002.
