Wayward squirrel creates morning Hamilton electric outage

A squirrel caused a morning power outage on Hamilton’s West Side, leaving several areas without power for about an hour along the city’s Line 1761 circuit.

The areas affected were Gordon Avenue, Rhea Avenue, Cleveland Avenue, Park Avenue, “E” Street, “F” Street, Franklin Street, Ross Avenue, Kenworth Avenue, Millville Avenue and Harrison Avenue.

Patrick Moore, assistant manager of transmission and distribution operations, said the source of the issue quickly was located so crews could address the problem, which was remedied by 10:52 a.m.

The city also lost power to its 16HYD-A circuit for a bit longer.

“We only have nine customers on there,” he explained.

Those included Welch Sand and Gravel, Rumpke Transfer Station, Hamilton Precision, and the Chem-Dyne Site Trust Fund, and power was restored to them by 11:06 a.m.
