Monroe schools, police say there’s ‘no reason to believe there was a credible threat’

“The Monroe police are continuing their investigation but tell us that they currently have no reason to believe there was a credible threat,” Monroe officials stated.

School will be in session as usual on Friday, and there is expected to be an increased police presence again “out of an abundance of caution and to try to make everyone in our schools feel as safe as possible.”

UPDATE @ 1:32 p.m.

According to a statement released on social media shortly before noon today there have been no incidents among the Monroe schools’ two campuses.

Officials at the Butler County school system said another update will be released at the end of the school day.

“School is in session today and everything is going well. Out of an abundance of precaution we do have an increased police presence in our schools today. We sincerely appreciate the Monroe Police Department's support and their tremendous job in addressing this issue quickly,” said Monroe officials.

“We understand there have been many questions and there will be a follow-up message with any new information at the end of the day. If you called the attendance office and requested a reply, please know that the office has logged that information about your student. We are experiencing a very high volume of calls, you may not receive a reply to questions directed to the number for attendance information. Please contact your school building's main office phone number with any additional questions.”

There will be an increased police presence today at Monroe Local Schools following a social media threat.

The student who made the threat directed at Monroe Junior High School will not be in school, and has been dealt with by police and school officials, according to Monroe police.

Monroe schools sent a notification Wednesday night to district parents about the threat.

All schools will operate as usual on Thursday.

It is not clear whether the student has been charged, and we are working to learn more about the threat as well as the student’s age and grade level.
